THE EVOLUTION OF THE SYSTEM OF ASSESSING STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE IN THE PREPARATORY SCHOOLS IN PENZA PROVINCE AND RUSSIA IN THE 19TH – EARLY 20TH CENTURIES

The article analyzes the essence, evolution and application of various systems of knowledge estimation of pupils and their progress in grammar schools in Penza province and in Russia in XIХ and at the beginning of XX centuries. The prototype of modern rating system of pupils' knowledge estimation is considered. Its basic lines and the usage in pre-revolutionary grammar schools are described.
